Ilkka Heinonen, is a Finnish musician best known for his groundbreaking work on performing the Jouhikko, an almost forgotten version of the bowed lyre.
He’s a Master graduate of Folk music from the Sibelius Academy – University of the Arts Helsinki, with an extensive path in the academy also in the field of Music Pedagogy.
During the 40 minutes, Ilkka shares with us an honest look into his life as a musician, from his first contacts with the piano at age 4, all the way through his teenagers year of Rock, later Jazz & Early music, Folk music, and now his doctoral research into the Jouhikko.
Ilkka Heinonen is a “hard to place” artist and researcher, with a wealth of knowledge to share and an uncanny insight into the universe of music practice.
It was a privilege to interview him – I cannot wait for our next chat.
